Toyota is already aware of the issue, as they monitor the big FJ site and they also monitor YotaTech on a daily basis.

If it happens to mine, it will repaired under warranty.
Oh man, I was really looking for a crack in the bay. Took me a while...good one.

Cracks should absolutely not happen period! Something is telling me that this is one of the few signs Toyota quality is getting worse. How do you repair the crack? Sounds like a big NVH problem right there. After they fix it, it will not be right. Technically they should crush the vehicle. GM in the 90's s10 trucks forgot to put in some floorpan reinforcements that prevent the cab from buckling. The trucks were crushed and the customer was given a new truck. It was a federal safety issue and it had to be crush by law but nothing like the FJ I ever seen.

This issue alone disqualifies the FJ for me. The longest I've gone without replacing a windshield is two years, and that was after driving it for over a year with a huge crack. In fact, I drive them until they are shotpeened to a thousand points of light regardless of cracks. Colorado is the worst place on earth for glass.

Hopefully in a few years there will be a less expensive glass alternative, and the first year issues will be history.
just my two cents, but Colorado actually offers windshield coverage at a 0 deductible, and it doesnt go against your rates. it is normal to go through one a year without rates being affected. ive been selling insurance for 2.5 years, and i havent seen one policy go up from windshield claims. not trying to be a jerk, but we insurance guys have a bad name, and i dont think we deserve it.

Thanks Hank, very good input.

Cracks are a normal occurance in some places, and I can not see an insurance company dropping someone or raising the rates on account of normal coverage.

i had to talk my mom out of one a couple of monthes ago, the rear door windows don't roll down, niether does the hatch window... but, if they come out with the soft-top model, and fix their weak steel, one might be an option. are there any other problems, how do the seats hold up to abuse?

Seats hold up great.

The few soft tops I have seen look gay.
Not my cup of tea.

I do not miss the rear passenger or the rear door window not rolling down one bit.

I know, some ask how can you see out a tiny window, and even with this monster in the back I can see just fine out my rear window.

I have Liberty Mutual, and I've been told three times by three different LM agents that glass is under regular comprehensive, is treated no differently than any other claim, and they offer no special glass rider.

If they've been lying to me, it might be time to switch. Who offers a 0 deductible glass policy that doesn't go against you? I spend at least $500 a year on windshields, some bad years I've spent more. Of course, if the coverage is $250 a vehicle it doesn't make much sense....

Geico only charges $50 a pop to replace the entire windshield, the labor, and anything else involved.

hmmm, as for the windshield issue i find that mine is holding up very well. I have a small chip in my window currently however ive many rock impacts from paaing trucks and such. Plus, in florida all windshield repairs are absolutely free for eveyone becuase of some law yall were talking about earlier. What is this ive been reading about glued on sheet metal on the hood? Is this true? I cant seem to belive it, theres no way toyota would glue something so important to save a few bucks. Im also having a hard time beliveing the engine bay cracks. For those people who jump thir rigs im shure it would happen (in any vehicle), but for us weekend trail guys this shouldnt happen. Im going to go inspect mine right now

I inspected mine underhood, no cracks.
But if it does, I am not worried about it.

Toyota will stand behind us and their product.

i have over 19,000 miles on my FJ and have no cracks, bulges or rips...

I also have a $0.00 deductible for the vehicle and so far i've had to have two rock chips patched in the windshield. So far i've been damn lucky but if it cracks, State Farm will buy me a new one...

Sounds to me like it all comes down to same thing everything does.. Personal Preference and Money. One guy is stoked on his FJ and the next guy would hate it.. Its an endless dispute of choice.

Personal Note of .02$: I would never want a vehicle I was afraid might crack in any way shape or form unless TRULY BEATEN to such a state. Windshields happen.
