Just a few of mine.

Check out the silver FJ in the vid that Molly made.
He kicks butt.
Watch it full screen.

The A Trac some say is better than the rear locker.
And now with Toyota synching up the two together to work at the same time, it is almost like having a front locker when the rear one is on.

The A Trac is worth getting if you want the other stuff in the packages.
If not, and you order just the rear locker, you can get A Trac for the price of the switch.
It is all wired up, you need only put the switch in.
But, you have to at least order the rear locker.

I did not go the cheaper route, I wanted everything that I got in the two packages I ordered.

$29,000 plus $500 for the clear 3M film that covers the lights, mirrors, 1/3rd of the hood, and other areas on the rig.

It does a great job protecting against rock chips.

So the total came up to $29,500.

About the only options I did not get was the subwoofer for the stereo, and side curtain airbags.
So mine is pretty loaded.

only problem is I don't want black color.
I like the silver color also

i bet you probably already knew this but if not... you can save some money by not buying ur fj with atrac because ALL 4wd with the rear locker have atrack. it is just the matter of getting the switch to turn it on. I proved it myself, bought the atrac switch of ebay for 50$ and then went and played. works great and didnt have to pay the extra hundreds of dollers for the upgrade.

ATRAC and rear lock can be run on ANY FJ. (first 50,000 or so require a slight wire mod)

The FJ is EXCELLENT off road. Especially with the rear locked, and the ATRAC axle on the front. It is just like being locked on both ends, only you can actually turn. It is a very good setup.

Overall, a very, very good off road vehicle.

Does anyone have any pics of FJ's running difficult or hard trails, specifically rocks?

I am looking for trails comparable to Prichett Canyon (Moab, UT), Martinez Canyon (Florence Junction, AZ), Aftershock (Johnson Valley, CA), etc.

Just wondering how the Atrac works for crawlin'.

Look in this same section Jim.
Look for 2 vids in the same thead I put up.
One of Miss FJ one of the admins over at the big FJ forum, and one of another guy.

They both run Hells Gate in Moab.
I have seen other rigs not make it up that at all.

Miss FJ walks right up it and her rig is stone stock right down to the cheap factory tires.

The other rig is built up.
Those who have seen his vid say he flew up that hill faster than most rigs they have seen do it.

Also a ton of pics on the magazine site of them doing the Lions Back.

Lemme see if I can round up all the links.

Miss FJ, stock as can be except for sliders

CO Jeff, rig not stock

Pics from 4WD Toyota Owner magazine

I can say this about the first gen ATRAC system on my 01 Runner, It acts a lot like Limited slip diffs front and rear. You just have to let it work and spin just for a second, then it senses the spin and away you go. However if you are totally crossed up at opposite corners sometimes it will do nothing with 2 wheels in the air, just like a limited slip.

Mine did awesome for nearly everything I tried. I did just do a Detroit in the rear so that I could take it a bit easier on the rig. A large part of my wheeling is crawling.

That being said I am sure Toyota has made big improvements on the programming with the FJ.

IMO I would wait for them to allow the rear locker and the ATRAC to work together before I bought one. Locker in the rear and ATRAC (acting like a LSD) in the front would be ideal which is what I am hoping for now with my set up.

eschamberlin,

I wonder if there is some way to reprogram the Atrac for your generation to become a little more sensetive to the wheel spin, and lock up sooner?

FYI, The ATRAC is revised in the FJC to be much more sensative, and works VERY well.

Also, The rear locker and ATRAC DO WORK TOGETHER on any FJ.
The catch is that the first 50,000 FJs made require a 5 minute wire splice mod. (takes less than 5 minutes, and its just in the engine comp)
The rear lock + ATRAC front end work beautifully together.

Jim. Check with Schaeffer. One of my buddies has gone out on a couple runs with his and I think he took a bunch of pics. Also check this thread for one pic from Log corral.

Got my FJ stuck in 6inch of snow on flat ground

Gotta love the FJ, but I have lost some faith in it's off-road ability. I was riding in the snow covered ridges of PA and got my FJ stuck in 6inch of snow only to have shovels and sticks save me from freezing, the stock Dunlop AT-20 tires absolutely suck so I am hoping that Cooper STT's will help. My theory is that you can have all the ATRAC and DIF LOCKS you want, if all 4 tires are spinning hopelessly you are screwed. Shame on you Toyota for putting street tires on an off-road vechicle.

PS Don't ever buy a Jeep Liberty recall after recall after reacall.......etc on forever

I have tires similar to the Cooper STTs, they are made by Cooper for Dick Cepek, and they are called Mountain Cats.

I have been running them since 911, and they proved to be a great tire in the snow and ice we had this winter.

Yes, the stock tires do suck, but they are good on Slick Rock.

Well thanks to Corey allowing me to pick his brain for a bit I just got one of these babies! Always been a 4runner guy until now. I got a silver loaded a lot like corey's that they just happened to having sitting around Manhattan Beach Toyota.

The dealer told me a guy around the corner does a moon roof that goes almost all the way back for $1300 or so. Any drawbacks to that? I really really like having that open sky. Also after seeing some of these vids I guess I feel kind of naked w/o the front grill guard/winch. Sigh, here we go.

I'm looking forward to getting this thing out around So Cal. Thanks again Corey.

You are welcome Matt.
Glad to talk to you yesterday.

Have fun with your new rig.
Not a day goes by that mine does not put a smile on my face driving it.

They make smaller moon roofs now too for it besides the huge ones that first came out.
