FJC Price Increase

As predicted, FJC and other Toyotas had a price increase effective today. There appears to be no change in content.

Toyota Announces 2007 Prices For Nine Vehicles in Model Lineup
08/07/2006 Torrance, CA
August 4, 2006 – Torrance, CA

The FJ Cruiser, the most capable off road SUV in the Toyota line-up, receives an increase of $200 or 0.9 percent with a base MSRP of $21,910 for the 2WD automatic to $23,500 for the 4WD automatic.

It probably cost them more than $200 per vehcile in press releases to make the announcement and reprint all their related "stuff"....

Why bother?

Upward price creep to ease the pain. It's unusual for Toyota to increase price on a four month old anything, except for the hottest models. This suggests a few more increases before '08MY which will bring another increase. With that strategy they can say 'and only a $200 price increase over the '07'. True enough when compared to the latest price before '08 intro, but could amount to $600-$800 over '07 intro price. With FJC production maxed out and demand remaining high, they don't expect any price resistance for this year's cult vehicle. It also suggests no need for an SE/Moab edition anytime soon, maybe next year when demand becomes more normal, but I could be wrong.

Press releases are done electronically, prices are omitted from print brochures, so with no content change a few website tweaks and Monroney label change will do.

Not surprising for the FJ. With it being so popular I'm sure there are people high up in Toyota still saying, 'D**n we should have priced it higher'

For what you are getting in relation to content & quality, the price is extremely low. In 1996, when the Rav4 was introduced, it was cheap, and within a year prices went up. My guess is that the FJ will go up considerably in 2008.

Funny they are raising prices. They can't move them here! Atlanta Toyota had 8 sitting on their lots when I drove by there 2 weeks ago and my local dealership has had the same silver one for awhile and is shocked they can't sell it. That being said I see at least 5 a day in my 50 miles commute, maybe they sent too many to SE Toyota.

could be, or that they're sold & waiting for delivery. By me, the dealers can't keep them in more than a day without being sold.

I don't think they were waiting for delivery. I actually talked to the dealer at the one by me, the sales guy was at a loss as to why they couldn't sell it. The other dealer had all of them out on display on the roadside with things like "Rare" and "Hot" written on the windshields.

Toyota is also offering really good incentives and deals here on their other vehicles right now though so that could have something to do with it. Plus, most of the ones through SE toyota got crammed with add-ons and they are doing stupid stuff like charging $1600 for "Special" wheels when they are just putting 2004 Sr5 16" tacoma wheels on them or, although I am sure this is much more expensive the BBS wheels with Pirelli Scorpions seems to be really popular here.

This is driving the price of the FJC up and unless you go there specifically to buy an FJC you are pushing limited 4x4 4runner territory. We almost purchased a V6 4x4 Limited 4runner with 0% for 4 years for $32,000 last weekened that stickered for $39,000.

It may be that market does not desire a true off road vehicle which is what the FJ was targeted for.

Every place I have check around here, dealers still have a 4k to 6k surcharge on the FJ, thats probably why they are not selling to good in some areas. My local dealer has 3 blue ones, all with surcharges.

SET gets whatever they want. I suspect their initial build order was too heavy on 4X4's. The 4X2's are selling well there, according to reported Toyota sales.

You would know! I generally trust what you post as you seem to be one well informed/read member!

I will say that I haven't seen any markups on them at my local dealership even when they had just received their first shipment. They have obviously sold a ton of them up until now, I see several on a daily basis.

I test drove one in Colorado and they only have one - a demo. They will only sell for sticker - no mark ups. I worked in Arkansas in April and saw $4000 mark ups and could not keep them in - If you want one - go to a State that will deal and avoid the mark ups! Still dreaming...

A whole $200. haha. Anyway, when said and done after I get done paying mine off (If I take the whole financed time) it will have cost me $40,000 so I don't get excited over a small increase. I got mine with practically everything, and after TTL it was about $34,000.

Since I am going to modify it a bunch with lift, tires etc it will cost even more. I think all those who got an FJ now are lucky, because I think the price will jump a LOT more than what was said here in the next year. Everyone who I have come into contact with it stares and asks lots of questions. Everyone loves em from what I have seen.

It's worth the money in my book. This new Cruiser is great on and off road from my experience so far with it. With modest modification, it will go far.
