crutch field os always about one year behind , they have to wait until everything has been test fitted and they have the info fro mthe manufacturer , you hink toyota is goingto give up some of that info right away when they are selling 3 different stereo options and a sub with amp, i highly doubt it .

Power Windows in the rear Doors. My Dog likes to stick her head out and bark at deer and rabbits. A center console cover would definitly be nice. More 12v power outlets. And more inside storage compartments.
Just to name a few. Overall, I think they did very well on their first try.

As in auto tranny?
You do not check it.
It is a sealed forever for the lifetime.
I am sure the fluid can be redone by a shop and synthetic put in, but from waht I have read, it is sealed.
Hey, obvioulsy Toyota knows what they are doing, at least I hope they do
I have faith in them.

I'm working on my second FJ. Toyota hit it out of the park. Perfectly sized, nicely balanced, adequately powered, excellent brakes, tremendous aftermarket, JDM build quality, fully boxed frame, etc. About the only thing to do with a stocker is to get the RR locker and some decent tires to be 95% of the way home. It's sure to become a classic.

I think most of my complaints have already been covered, but have to echo a couple...
1. The gas mileage- I realized I wasn't buying a Prius, but I didn't think I was buying a Ferarri. In normal city driving, I'm averaging around 14mpg. Even if I shift quickly and keep the rpms down, it doesn't do much good and that of course takes the fun out of the drive. I figured the manual shift would help it get better mileage, but I'm thinking that the full-time 4wd negates that factor and then some. This all wouldn't be so bad if the thing ran on 87 octane, but the requirement for high-octane is making things very expensive.
2. The visibility- yeah, it's not wonderful, but I don't think it's quite as bad as some people make out. I do have to say that backing up at night requires some crossed fingers as the combination of the high and small window and the dark tinting makes it almost impossible to see what you're about to run over.
3. The interior lighting- great if you're at Lover's Lane trying to get lucky, but terrible if you're trying to fine spare change on the floor for a toll at night.
4. One minor but really annoying design flaw that has not been mentioned- when you turn the temp control all the way cold, it flips the AC on. What is this all about? If I want the AC on, I'll press the AC button. Now, if I just want cool outside air, I have to turn the knob down very carefully so as not reach the last click and activate the AC.
5. Someone mentioned that there are too many on the road. I have to agree that I was really hoping that they would keep these super-limited in production and that the masses would just ignore it, but I'm seeing more and more in dealer lots and on the road. I am glad to see that at least in my area (Philly), Toyota is still not spending a cent on advertising. I'm also very thankful that so far, the FJ seems to have been all but ignored by the two groups that can kill a vehicle quicker than any other- rappers and teenage girls. I have yet to see an FJ with spinners on an episode of Cribs and most drivers in my area seem to be male or middle-aged female. Thank heavens for the H2 and RAV-4 ;-)
Other than that, I must say I'm absolutely enamored with my FJ- as fun to drive as a Jeep, but more civil on the highway, turns alot more heads, and easier to get the kids in and out of.

My MPG has been averaging around 18.5 for city/freeway, not bad since I have a 3" lift and aftermarket stuff weighing it down.

You can see how I was getting close to 21, and then how it dropped.
It also just started to rise up.
Could be the engine is breaking in more (7K now) or winter gas additives have been taken out of the gas, not sure.
I am seeing many around now, and they are at every Boeing plant I visit throughout the day.
It still puts a mile wide grin on my face everytime I climb into the cockpit.

I have only one complaint the sun visors are useless and with them down you can't see traffic signals(some times with them up you can't see traffic signals). My Daughter hates to ride in the back (she's 17!!). She says it like beginning in a small plane looking out the small window and it doesn't open. The wife and I will be driving and see something and my daughter is in back saying " i didn't see a thing". But for me its GREAT I Love My FJ.

JeepDefector, I think the M/T mileage is worse due to the shorter final drive compared to the A/T, 3.9 vs. 3.7.
Also, initially premium fuel was required, but Toyota issued a bulletin stating that it's recommended, not required. I've tried Chevron and Shell regular grades and it seems to run fine. The 1GR has dual knock sensors, one on each bank, to make needed adjustments to avoid detonation.
I'm getting about the same numbers, but my average trip length is under 5 miles and over two-lane hilly terrain. On longer trips I get 16 around town, 21 freeway.
Their thinking on the A/C is to kick on the compressor when the temp dial is all the way CCW to where it says "Max A/C" that forces it on and also activates the recirculation button. The recirc button can be overridden, but not the A/C button when in max position only.
I've tried tire pressures between 32 and 45 for the BFG A/T's and settled on 40 for slight improvement in economy, steering feel and handling.

I have logged over 12k miles since Nov 16th on my TRD SE and my biggest complaint is keeping it clean!
I am thinking about trading it in on one of the '08 Firebrick Red or Sandstorm FJ's.
I also find that I can gain about 30-40 miles on a tank of fuel when using high octane over low or mid grade... not sure why this is exactly...

Lets just hope that Sandstorm color is the old school Desert Dune that gsgmac had his painted.
I would have gone for that color if it was offered, but I am very happy with my Titanium Metallic.

Wow, 12K miles.
I have about 7.5K on mine now, and I will be coming up on one year July the 24th.

I've owned small black cars before and they were hard to keep clean, an all black FJ must be very hard to keep claen, but when it is I bet it looks GOOD!
