6x9 Speakers

ive been wanting to replace the factory speakers for some time now but im having a hard time deciding since there are about 100000000000 difference ones out there. Anyone have any suggestions on any speaker in particular? Im looking around the 150$ range for a pair of 6x9 and they will not be powered by an extra amp, just my avic d3 headunit. Tnx any suggestions will help

if you're willing to spend around $150, then check out the Pioneer REV Series speakers. i run them with no amp and they sound great...

IMO Pioneer is crap. All the stuff I had stopped working IMO!!! Not looking to start an argument. If you want to pay about $150 try some Alpine 6x9s off of ebay great sound and quality.

sound quality really is in the ear of the beholder. you can get suggestions of what other people like, but it may not be what appeals to you. that being said, i like my infinity speakers.

Whats up ISurfer, I also have the Avic D3 head unit in my FJ, I just added Pioneer 350 watt Kevlar 6x9"s on each front door, and swapped out the top dash speakers and back panel speakers to Pioneer 3" speakers. It sounded nice stock powered straight from the unit, but after a few days I wanted more sound and more kick. I then added a Pioneer 10" super flat subwoofer in a flat box, and a local audio shop is customizing the back door panel (under the rear window) for me to install (2) more 350 watt 6x9 Pioneer speakers on the back door facing front ward. I added a 5 Channel Soundstream Amp to power all the speakers. The system now sounds loud, clear and crisp and kicks sweet.

I will upload a few shots of my FJ in a few days so you can check out the final install once They finish the back custom panel. Oh, and here are the prices I paid for the speakers:
Pioneer 350 watt Kevlar 6x9's= $120.00 set of two
Pioneer 3" speakers= $45.00 set of two
Pioneer 10" Subwoofer with box= $180.00

Any questions let me know....
John

BTW on a side note, if anyone knows where to get the passenger side mirror asemply let me know. I broke mine off well not realy broke off but i clipped a road sign and the glass shattered and the bulb also broke, hopefully i can just replace those components because if not somone on another forum told me of a site who has the whole assemply for about 140

I installed the Pioneer Avic-D3. Adding this gave me access to a full EQ as well as additional sound adjusters. The factory speakers now sound as good if not better than many of the premium speakers available. My suggestion: keep the factory speakers and upgrade your head unit.

I did this at first.
I had the AVIC-D3 installed last March and ran the stock speakers for awhile.

A few months back I had Focal 6" components put in the doors, with the tweeters from them up in the dash where the stock speakers were.

I had 4" Infinitys put in the very rear, and the sound is fantastic.
So good I may forgo putting in the 2 10" subs I was thinking of adding in the back.

x2 on the infinity, i wouldnt buy from crutchfield unless they are on sale. their regular prices are just too high. you can get them off amazon or ebay for much better prices. but infinity does make good products, when i upgrade the speakers behind my seats i will be going with another set of infinities.

Pioneer REV's are one of the best speakers you can get for sound quality without amplifier including a lot more expensive speakers.just listen to mike1998.the REV's are a lot better than those infinity's.for a $150 budget I would not buy any other then the REV's.
