T100 Replacement Tailgate

Hello,
I'm new to this forum but have been a long time T100 owner. I have a 1998, extended cab, SR5. It's green.

I've had it for about eleven years now and it just rolled over 222,000 miles. I've changed the timing belt/water pump twice, have done all of the simple and routine maintenance, brakes, bearings, lockouts, etc. I recently changed the valve cover gaskets and was amazed at how clean the inside of the engine was.

I tried a search but couldn't find anything on this. Has anyone found an aftermarket tube tailgate for the T100? It's the only part of my truck that is showing any rust.
Thanks,
Winkel

I've never seen one made for the T personally. Your talking about a tailgate like the gates that guys who pull fifth wheels run right?

It really is to bad your so far away. I've got a second tailgate for my truck in my garage...

Yota,
Yes, that's the type I'm looking for, minus the dip for the fifth wheel tongue. I'll probably end up going with one on those net type units. I'd rather have something more substantial but that'll probably have to do.

On a side note, I lived in Longmont back in 1985. I was between junior college and college and was looking for a change of scenery. It's beautiful out there. I worked at Bart's Automotive on the main drag. I assume that's gone now since the owner was older then and was somewhat overweight.

I appreciate the thought on the extra tailgate though. If I can find a good one this summer, I may go that route. I'm going to be re-painting my front clip since the clear coat is starting to peel.
Thanks,
Winkel

Wow, I haven't heard of Bart's before. I've lived in longmont now for 4 years now. I started working at longmont Toyota in 2007. I've since moved on but I love it here.

What color is your T? I've seen some problems with the greens and blacks losing their clear coat.

On a side note, I wasn't even alive in '85. Just shows w

There aren't very many aftermarket parts fer the T-100. You'll probably have to rip a tailgate apart and have someone build you a tube gate to yer specs from the pieces.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've had this truck for about eleven years now so I know it's not the easiest to find parts for.

I may have to go the custom route, but I'll check out the used market first.

My front clip was repainted before I bought it. I didn't notice it at the time but it was well done. I can only assume that it's not the factory paint that is peeling. The top of the cab is fine and so are the sides of the bed.

Thanks again,
Winkel
