T100 half shaft replacement $$$$$$$$$$$

I am looking at buying a 1995 T100 SR5 for about $6000. 4x4, Xcab, Auto. 141,000 miles.
Outer CV boots are split and the CV's are toast.
Dealer wants $471 per shaft and 10.1 hours to R&R both shafts.
Does anyone know why it is so time consuming or difficult to R&R these shafts on the T100's ??????
Or is the dealer giving me the shaft?????
I am holding off on buying this until I get more info on this. It also has an engine oil leak somewhere. Body is great. NO RUST. Steering wheel leather is falling off !!! ha ha

Thanks for any info.......

Less $$$ and take it to a shop to do them and your set. But dealer wants way to much, cv's are easy to chnage imho..

they charge so much because they will remove the lower ball joint from the spindle. You could do it yourself for about $100 or so per axle, and it would only take 17MM and 14Mm sockets.

get axles from a regular autoparts store and do it yourself.

its not TOO bad of a job, just really dirty and pretty time consuming

I think I'll do just that. This will end up being a $10,000+ investment into a $6,000 truck.....not sure that I like that math.

Thanks....!!
