Hey everyone....

I just picked up a nice 96 T100 a few weeks ago and notice an annoying noise coming from under or behind the dash when accelerating. I'm thinking it's a speedometer cable going bad but not real sure. Has anyone had this issue as well? Or does anyone know if it has a speedo cable? FYI, this only occurs while driving... not in park or stopped.

Oh man. This problem happened to my dad Corolla last year. I took it to 3 dealers and finally the 4th one found out. There is a loose plastic "thing" behind the speedometer. They told me the "thing" but I forgot. They have to take part of the dash out an "snapped" it back in. It costed me $60 because the warranty was expired the date before. Suck. The bad part was my dad told me the problem 6 months ago and I kept forget taking it to the dealer.

 

i just got up to about 90 and then when back to zero and it never happened again.. take the dash off and look around

 

Sounds like a dried out Speedo cable. Mine did it for awhile. Sounds like a film canister full of pebbles rolling around behind the dash. The faster you go the louder it sounds. Pretty common problem on the T100's.

They can't be regreased but they can be replaced at the dealership. Had mine done last Fall for about $180. The noise gets worse the colder it gets outside. It's not doing any harm, so you could just turn the radio up and live with it, but it sure can be annoying!
