New T100 Owner!

Hey Yall! So I finally got me a yota....again. my first yota was a 88 4x4 pickup that I broke the frame in half thanks to frame rust. Well many years later I am now the new owner of a 1993 T100 SR5 4x4. I got it in the condition it is in, which isn't bad. It has a lift on it that I believe is about 6" with 36" Super Swampers on stock Yota Wheels. It has approx. 240k miles on the 3.0l with a 5spd manual. Over the years someone has taken care of it but also neglected it. It has manual hubs...but until recently the a.d.d. didn't work....but thanks to some modification it's dummy proof now . However in the past 2 weeks I have had this awesome truck it has developed some problems . So here goes the list......

1. A fairly loud audible hum/whine from the front of the engine, i.e. timing belt cover.
2. CEL with a 52 code
3. V/c gaskets leaking fairly bad
4. 8 mpgs!
5. idles EXTREMLY high in my opinion(i.e. cold start about 2k, when warm 1k-1200 rpm)
6. Serp. Belt squeals VERY loud about 3k rpm
7. Vacuum leak that sounds as though it's coming from the plenum gasket.
8. VERY soft break pedal
9. A very bad leaking coming from I BELIEVE pass. side axle seal :/

Now I understand some of this stuff is probably simple fixes while other are looking like they're going to be difficult and EXPENSIVE so I am weighing my options. Please don't think I am a total noob and asking how to fix EVERYTHING lol but I could use some advice regarding most of these issues.

FYI since buying it I have replaced all the filters, Oil change, Plugs, Wires, Cap, Rotor, Battery, Seafoam in tank plus a round of the Aero. Can.

sounds cool with 36s damn. Do you know if the tranny or engine have been rebuilt? If they have not been touched and those tires have been on there for a long time you may be due for a big overhaul.

I would check the pulleys, a worn out one could make the belt squeal when it stops turning... careful you could melt your belt

put new brake fluid in and use stainless lines. or replace the soft lines

axle seals are cheap and a shop should be able to do it in an hour or less. (did mine recently, ruined some brake pads)

8mpg only makes sense if its not geared right. you prob want 5.30 gears or maybe lower... i would guess you should be able to get at least 10?

check if the timing belt has been changed recently. if not do that right away, and throw in a new water pump and timing belt pulleys

you may want to do new ball joints and keep an eye on the idler arm for wear and tear with those 36s

The code could be due to the vacuum leak and that other leak, or maybe an o2 sensor or bad cat. Idle could be due to an air leak somewhere, although thats not horribly high it should be lower

post some pics!

If you end up needing a new motor go with a 3.4

Hey sorry for the delayed response lol. Work has been hectic. Ok so I'm working in getting her all in order. The axle tube seal that is leaking bad is actually the front one. Now I work for an auto parts store and don't have a listing. Wanted to see if anyone has had luck finding it. Also I will post a pic asap.

about the vacuum leak. spray some quick start at the plenum. if that is leaking like mine was the rpms will jump up a little bit. that gasket at checker auto parts is about 120 i believe. not hard to do at all. i've pretty much pulled the top half of my motor (5vzfe) but the soft pedal. bleed the brakes. the booster might be going bad and that could be where you hear the wine sound. that could cause a soft pedal. i've had my truck for 8 years put a 100,000 of the 212,000 miles that are now on the truck. have any questions i can probably help

recently ish bought a t100

sold my old rig, 1993 toy pickup dlx, 6in lift 283k miles and 35x12.5xr15 tires, custom intake custom exhaust, all mad ein the garage, sold that for 6500, bought the t for 3500 stock with 125k miles, not bad if i say so myself, however its a 95, and i think the tq converter is going out in it, how big of a pain is it to change them?
