buzzing noise

my newly acquired 96 t-100 with a/t and 3.4 makes an annoying noise, like a buzz at 23-2800 rpm.I think it might be the heat shield on the crossover pipe between the exaust manifolds.anybody else experience this?Is it okay to cut it off, or is there a fixit tip anyone knows of?

greg,

yes, the heat shield is a source of buzzing and drone. have you gotten under there, had someone rev the engine, and then press on the HS to see if that was the source of noise? if not, go to it.

many 3rd gen owners have had this issue and just tightened down the nuts and fixed the problem. easy.

this is the skield that is on the crossover, its a pressed fit and there is no nuts to tighten which is why i want to cut it off.Ive revved on it under the hood, but strangely it only happens in gear when going up a slight hill or taking off.I just am slightly concerned about the heat, but theres almost 4" between the pipe and the firewall hump, whaddya think?Amputation?Salvation? It sure is annoying!
