4WD T100 Front Wheel Bearing Replacement

Hi Everyone!

I'm a longtime T100 owner (15 yrs, two trucks). I used to get a lot of help off this forum about 10 years ago, re-engaging now as I'm looking to put some work into my truck. The biggest thing I need to do right now is replace the front wheel bearings. There is more back and forth play in the wheels, when you jack the truck up and pull/push on them, than I'm comfortable with. My truck is 4WD. I've dug into the guts of the front 4WD wheel hub/axle assembly before, though it's been a number of years, and I remember it not being super easy.

My question, how difficult is this to do in my garage with basic mechanics tools? I'm looking to replace both the inner and outter bearings on both front wheels. I'm a competent home mechanic and have a decent set of tools. Any special tools required? Do you need a shop press to press the bearings in and out of the axle assembly? The diagrams I've found seem to indicate that the wheel bearings on this truck are held in by snap rings, thus no pressing? Though I'm probably missing something. I'm hoping someone here can give me a little insight about this job before I just start taking the thing apart and figuring it out on my own, and possibly getting myself into trouble.

Thanks in advance!

- Nick
