Toyota V8 conversion hot start problem
I have a 87 4runner and recent put a Chevy 307 in it. I am having a problem with the starter when the motor has been running for a while. I put a push button ignition on the starter and it starts fine when its cold but not when its hot. I can turn off the key and the starter turns over fine but when i turn the key (so it will fire) and push the button it barely turns over (when its hot.) I also put a new ford solenoid wired to the chevy solenoid with a jumper on the chevy one (there's a kit for the chevy hot start problem) and a new chevy solenoid but i still have the same problem when its hot. Any ideas? Thanks

yah sorry, If I saw this thread earlier I would have said Timing was too far advanced. It will make it almost impossible to start.
Glad you got it running !
One of my options of a motor swap is a 383 or cummins 4bt.
Let's see some pics

Here are some older pics before i put the top back on. Also recently added a front skid plate and a custom snorkel on the passenger side.

x2 on the starter. ive got a 350 in my yota, and when its hot, it wah wahhh starts but its hard on it, due to the heat of the engine. get a shield or some wrap. you'll be happy with it. also, what a dick move to say that its a junk motor, i like the 307s, can make gobs of power. good luck on your project.

haha I know, mine does it all day long .. 15" wide tires..
was just makin a point.
I understand Brand loyalty and in a way I also despise it.
Each has a good and bad side.
I'm going to swap my motor out for something 'simpler to fix, cheaper to fix, more power and tq'. So either chevy 350 stroked to 383 or cummins ... might go with cummins 12v just for simplicity and reliability.

so sad that you think like that. so sad.
I think of what will 'suit me' inside my own reality which is limited by nothing.
You're limiting you ability to mod your vehicle (if you choose to do so) by a limited amount of tools and parts.
Which in it's own right is advanced within the lines of OEM, but very ignorant or misguided when compared to the potential of limitless options.
I have no idea what I just typed, it sounded good.
I'm outta this thread, ciao
