Stereo wire to fuse box?

I noticed that my stereos battery wire has been linked into a fuse in my fuse box. Is this normal? Is it a legitimate way to wire it, or ghetto?

Yes it needs to be fused...sometimes it has an inline fuse and sometimes it is a fuse in the fuse box.

Ok. It just seemed a little sketchy to see a wire stuffed in under a fuse.

Oh, that is what you meant....I have seen it done, even by "professionals", not my favorite way of doing things.

Hope they have it stuffed under the correct end or it will not be fused.

Is it correct? no. Will it work and be safe? Sure... as long as they picked the correct side of the fuse to connect it to. Bottom line is it's the lazy way to do it. If you're stuck for a place to get power and you don't want to install an auxiliary fuse block, then another option is using a "Mini Fuse Add-A-Circuit" to give you the extra fused 12V source.

I may look into something more somewhere down the road anyway. I like having another couple power outlets. I'm lucky enough to have a working cigarrette lighter in my truck still after it's 25 years, but I'd like to have more options. Wiring is still a bit foreign and scary to me, but I've got a good vehicle to start on. It's pretty basic.
Thanks!

use a proper fuse tap and don't just stuff a wire under the leg

I was wondering on this subject with the fuse box, the power goes right to the battery so if you leave something on your screwed right, but with the existeing fuse box you can say put the wire under the fuse and have it were the key has to be on for it work any other way? Id like to clean up my fuse box as well.

Use a "Mini Fuse Add-A-Circuit" as Gallant suggested they are easy and cheap to install and may save you a ton of grief later.
