rpm gauge dropped to 0

I have a 2000 limited 4x4 toyota 4runner and recently the rpm gauge was acting a little wierd it wouldn't stay one hundred percent still but just now when I let off the accelerator the hand dropped to 0. And now whenever im stopped it goes to 0. It has around 150,000 miles on it. What could be wrong?

check wires? I don't know if tachometers just "go out", but that could have happened as well. Should plug into the engine somewhere by where the plug wires are? Used to a carb'd 4-cyl so I'm not sure.

Mine was doing that for awhile, gave it a swift bonk and she fixed herself.

Good luck
