radio screen not visible at night

The backlighting on the factory radio in my 2000 4Runner is not working with the headlights or dash lights. I can see it ok during the day but not at night.
It is the CD/tape radio. Any Ideas? Thanks, Eric

If you are refering to the knob to the left of the steering wheel that dims the dash lights, I tried that - with no effect on the radio.

does anyone here have experience with the internals of the factory radio? I there a bulb inside that could burn out?

The same thing happened on my 3rd gen. I took it apart to see if I could fix it. I don't remember why exactly, but it can't be fixed. I bought another limited factory stereo with working lights for my runner from this site. I'll sell it to you for what I paid if you want it.
