NOTHING working inside truck -just hazards
i just bought a 1986 4runner dlx. the guy i bought it from had to jump it off and used some bad jumper cables. they overheated and started smoking almost immediately. he noticed the lights on the dash came on and went off during this.
i noticed the bad jumpers after about 45 seconds and used mine, but it never jumped off at all. come to find out the battery was bad.
the truck now runs like a bute after battery replaced but EVERYTHING on the inside is not working EXCEPT the hazard lights...strange... i think....
i noticed the fusable link from the pos battery stud to the fuse box had a burn mark on it. but im not sure if this would cause the electrical failure inside. the links are hard to come by so i wanted to make sure that was my prob before investing the time to replace it.
any suggestions would be helpful.
ps checked all the fuses and all were fine.

Check from the Battery Terminal side of the fusible link to a point on the fuse block to see if it is open.
I think you very well may have other problems.
If the inline main fusible link is open it would not start.
It runs is the charging system working ?? Have you checked with a meter??
Explain just what you mean every thing in the cab doesn`t work??
Do you mean just the lights??
Blower motor, Wipers, things like that as well??
Perhaps the jumper cable mishap took out the coils of some of the light relays??:wabbit2: If the jumper cables were hooked up in series it is possible all the light bulbs blew.
If you don`t have a Multimeter now is a good time to invest in one.
Start at the battery and check things as you work toward the part that is not working.
one step at a time.

thanks for your feed back wyoming9. the truck starts up good, no prob and runs well without issue.
what i mean by nothing works ---EXCEPT speedometer, forgot that one, and the hazards--- is that when the truck is on and running nothing works when you try to turn it on. the headlights, no brake lights when brake is pushed, no radio no wipers, no a/c or heater, back window, defog, cab light, absolutely nothing. in fact the head lights worked at one point but have since stopped (i had not messed with anything up until that point either.)
i am a total noob when it come to electrical stuff. what do you mean by an "open" fuseable link?- btw have not used a meter on anything.

Open means the fuse has failed and the circuit has a break that will not permit current to flow.
It is kinda a habit picked up from working with welders all the time.it sounds better when writing up estimates.
I really can`t understand how it even runs let alone starts.
Chasing down electrical problems can be a slow process. One step at a time.
I have seen good fuses not complete a circuit because the sockets were corroded or loose.
Check for your correct voltage at the headlight bulbs
and at the tail light sockets
Check the blubs are good.
Just try and get one system at a time don`t try to get it all working at the same time.
check your grounds the one on the left door post.
