New question..... 12v - 8.5v
OK, now that I've got my monitor working like a champ, Now I would like to figure out how to convert the 12v, to 8.5volts.... I've got a PS2 slim and it's got an external ac adapter for the plug, but I can plug 8.5volts DC directly into the back of the PS2. I also want something that will take the 12v or 14.4 or whatever the battery will put out and still keep the output 8.5....
Same concept as before with a voltage regulator? Electricity is NOT one of my specialties….

i am not an EE, but here's what i do know:
if you know the imput impedence of the PS2, then you can design a voltage divider with some simple resistors:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voltage_divider
or what i would to: just plug the 12V directly in to the PS2, chances are (though i don't know for sure) that the PS2 has a voltage regulator in it so it will accept a large range of voltages and internally convert it to what it wants.

Hey Allen, go right back to that site that edikp pointed you to for the 7805 info.
http://www.tapr.org/gps_pwrsup.html
Check the schematic below the 7805 circuit for info on a LM317 based supply. The LM317 is an adjustable regulator, you can set it's output for most anything you want.
The spec sheet for the 317 is here.

- Head to http://cache.national.com/ds/LM/
- Scroll down about 1/3 of the way until you see "LM317"
