after a 5 hour highway drive my tach stopped working and when i pulled into my driveway and let my truck idle it died. when i tried to restart it nothing happend, the appropriate lights came on but th truck didnt even think about turning over. the gauge for the battery says its fine, the headlights work, rear window works, the only thing that wont happen is the truck starting. however when i jumped it it started right away, is this an alternator problem or a dead battery, it seems the battery being dead would cause all the other things to not work. any ideas? ive never dealt with these kinds of issues so any help would be appreciated

 

check if the battery terminal connections are nice and tight. the same thing happened to me. everything worked but when i try to start it all it did was click. so i tightened up the connections and the truck started. if that doesnt work, the wires that goes to the starter might have high resistance.
