I think this would take more than one relay, but I just need to know how to hook it up.

I bought an aftermarket door lock control for my Tundra, which automatically locks the doors at 15mph, and unlocks them either at ignition off or when put into park.

I would like to create a relay setup that would disconnect the switched power to the unit when a passenger opens a door (as long as the door dash light is lit) or presses the "unlock" button (- momentary trigger) so the unit would automatically lock the doors at 15mph after letting the passenger out without turning the ignition off and back on.

On another thought, would this accomplish the tasks above? How would I hook it up?

Any ideas would be great

BTW here is the unit I will be purchasing for those of you that would like speed sensitive door locks

 

wire up a relay in series with your ignition line going into the unit so that 85 and 30 are ignition wire, 86 is your negative trigger(s), 87a is going to the unit, and 87 is disconnected.

when you get a negative pulse from either the door pin or the unlock button, it engergizes the relay and disconnects ignition power from the unit. when the negative trigger goes away the relay coil loses power and reapplies power to the unit, mimicing turning the key off and then back on.

this might not work at all, but it seems like it should. let me know if it does!

Since I am disconnecting the IG input to the unit, it will try to unlock my locks when opening a door or unlocking doors (since those actions cut the IG power to the unit), I need to set up a relay to disconnect the unlock signal from the unit whenever the actual truck IG is on. To my understanding it would be as follows:

86: Truck IG
85: Ground
30: Unlock wire from unit
87a: To truck unlock wire

I'm probably making this more complicated than it should be, but this is how I want my door locks to operate (have cake and eat it too ) Plus I have fun making it work EXACTLY the way I want

 

that'll work, but that might also make the doors not unlock via the unit when you shut off the truck, or put it in park. if that's what you want then excellent

have you poked around www.the12volt.com much? lots and lots of information on relay wiring and general car electronics. tons of info on the site and if you still have questions the guys on the forums are smart as hell.

Hmm, why would the doors not unlock when I shut off the truck? The relay not fast enough to trip before the unit sends the unlock signal out?

I'll get as many pics as I can, not much to really take pictures of really, unless you want a video of my locks locking when I reach 15mph

 

That's what I'm thinking, the relay might not be fast enough to turn off before the unit sends its unlock. Try it and see.
