putting new engine in, and cant remember is there 1 or 2 connections on the starter post? i have a left over wire but it seem like it doesnt reach the starter and its got a big eyelet like starter

Where does the other end of that wire go? You are in the best position to find that out.

You have one wire coming from the positive terminal of the battery .

Then being this is a Toyota and many strange electrical and mechanical things are seen often.

You may have used the stud on the starter to connect other things as well
