Electrical problem out of the blue.

I haven't messed with any wires in my truck for over 1.5 months. Yesterday, at 2 PM, I have a new problem out of the blue. It won't go away.

When the key is on, the battery charge (BC) light is supposed to be on along with the e-brake (EB) light since I always use mine.

When I started my truck and released the brake, I noticed both lights stayed on. When the EB is applied, it's light gets a bit brighter, but then dims again when the brake is released. Also, my radio mutes for a fraction of a second about every 7 seconds.

This is all related to each other. After this started, it's only not happened once. And when it didn't happen, everything was back to normal. Neither lights stayed on and my radio was fine.

Any ideas?

There are a few things I would guess you don`t know those two lights come on when you have a failure to charge the system problem.

It could be bad grounds or the wire off the Alternator B terminal that goes to the fuse block brushes stuck in the alternator.

Loose connection somewhere.

I'm pretty sure now that it's a bad ground. I still don't understand why the ebrake light would come on with the battery light; the battery light is there for a reason, why would it need another light to assist it?

But anyways, now, it will flicker on and off before my eyes. So, actually, not a bad ground, but a short. When installing my KC's, I used a screwdriver to puncture the grommet on the passenger side of the firewall for the electrical harness so I could run the wires for the switch through it. I highly doubt that did anything, I took extra care to make sure I wouldn't hit wires.

Not to find where the short is.

Most of the older mid eighties Toyotas All use the ebrake and battery light for a failure to charge .

It is just the way it is wired.

The first time I had that happen I had to break out the wiring diagram.

a loose ground or connection even a loose alternator belt could cause it to flicker.
