delco cs144 conversion problem

have a 85 22r that i just installed with a delco cs144. i've got a problem that i cant' seem to solve. The new alt is charging fine except that i cannot get the charge light to go off. i have the red wire from the ign wired to the lamp wire of the PLFS plug but it doens't seem to do anything. In looking at the schematic in the shop manual it appears that the charge light circuit goes through the main charge wire. I know that the lamp circuit is needed with the resistor in the line but this is starting to give me a large headache so i'm hoping that someone here will have done this. i searched the posts but all i came up with were posts that go back to 2005 about mounting the cs144, which in my 85 p/u involved machining the case some and using flat washers to align the pulley that worked fine now it would sure be great to get it completely working. i sure could use the help. it's firewood time and my truck is sitting. thanks
peter

cant you just 1 wire it to the battery? and just not mess with that?also heard somewhere else that sometimes those lights stay on cause of a panel or switch near the passenger side, or its the grey box with the green connecter by the drivers feet tap one of those see if it shoots off.
