choosing a battery
I'm doing a 7mge swap into my sas'd 86 xtra cab. I'm getting a 140 amp alternator from a place on so cal to keep up with my 1600watt stereo. I had a to an intake/battery swap and I'm in the market for a battery and tray. I was thinking about the optima red or yellow top, but their $251 and $307 here, but they said they would knock off $10 or so bucks. the optima billet tray is $100+ and them I need to get 12-14 feet of 4 gauge to re-connect everything again (fuse box-batt, batt-starter, alternator-fuse box, grounds) so I looking at $500 if I want to run an optima!!! Anybody have a dual post battery that they winch with and/or they have a big stereo? I could make my own tray if need be. Thanks for any input. Sorry for the novel! And I'm in vancouver bc so please suggest something that I could buy 'up in canada' lol

I use welding cable for all my battery cables. short ends that have no use for welding anymore.
Down here Deka makes a battery tray for around $ 5.00 i would go with the best battery you can buy that fits what room you have.
I also think the optima is over rated . Don`t know what batteries you can purchase up yonder.
Go luck with your swap

Hey guys, thanks for the replys. I couldn't believe it when I heard "$251 and $307, but we can knock a bit off for ya". crazy! When I was at lordco yesterday (one of the biggest parts stores in canada) I saw the different gauges of welding cable. It had nice rubber casing and was very flexible. What size wpuld you suggest?
Batt-fuse box is 5'
Batt-started is 2'
Alt-fuse box is 4'6
I was thinking 6 gauge
4 gauge
6 gauge
And 8 gauge for the 2 block to body grounds.
I know the bigger the wire the easier the current flows, but is there a point where is way overkill?
Also, I found a local place that has a batt that the same size as a 34/78...it has 800cca and is similar to a yellow top....retail is $101.xx!!! Has dual terminals and everything
