A/C question

Just bought this truck: 87 Toyota 4wd, regular cab 22R. Want to get the a/c to work, the green light in the dash switch would not come on.....so I found the secret fuse behind glove box, fuse was blown... put a new 10 amp in and the green light came on like normal.
Problem is when I cut the a/c on and tried it, the compressor only turned for a second and it blew the "secret" fuse immediately.
Any suggestions??

I have not tested the freon level in the system yet, trying to start cheap.

That'd be my guess.. Or a short in the wires before the clutch.

I's also say shorted magnetic clutch coil. But for grins, unplug the compressor, turn it on and see if ther fuse blows. If the mag cutch coil is shot, the clutch bearing is also probably gone and heated the coil up, burning away the insulation and shoirting it to itself and/or ground. Spendy repair!
