blinkers not blinking
randomly today my blinkers stopped working, the hazards still work, and all fuses are intact. is there a seperate flasher unit for the blinkers and hazards? its raining out right now, so i cant go check it out too much, also if im not mistaken arent the flaher units on the back of the fuse panel under the driver side dash? thanks for the help.

pulled the flasher unit, is there only one? all i could find was one. advance auto had 2 part numbers listed for flashers on a third gen 4runner. i got both, neither one seemed to solve my problems, i guess tomorrow its time to call a shop somewhere an see if they might be able to track down the culprit. anyone have anyother ideas to try?

does anyone have a factory manual for a 97 4runner, that could look up and see if there is more than one flasher or relay for the signal lights.
i guess my next step is the pull the switch and see if maybe it went bad.

no blinkers either!
Just got back from the coast...I drove 63 miles down the beach (each way), and now my turn signals are non-functioning, just like runnerboy97's. I am curious if he or anyone found a fix?
Here is a little more info:
Signals quit (act like a DEAD switch), then eventually my hazards quit as well...telling me there was a short somewhere, as that is piggybacked on the HORN fuse (15A, under hood, 2nd or 3rd from bottom). I replaced the fuse, got my horn and hazards back. Bought a new switch, and guess what? STILL NOTHING. So I have an extra $80 part and am going to have to track down the real culprit. I think I jarred something loose on the beach, there were 50mph stretches that snuck up on whooptie-doos...and I caught air a few times and see-sawed front to back enough to knock down my visors and open my ashtray. (Yes, I had a blast.) Anyway, back on subject:
1) has anyone else had this problem and found a fix?
2) IS there another relay for the turn signals separate from the hazard blinkers?
3) Any idea where these (if exist) are located?
4) Does anyone know which wires enter the HORN fuse location FROM the blinkers?
My apologies for the laundry list of questions. I'd really like to get this fixed... today's drivers have no idea what hand signals are; every time I signaled I either got a bad look or a goofy wave. =)

I can return the $80 switch, as I didn't need it.
I took everything apart, and upon reassembly I checked all my fuses...fuse (10A) in the dash fuse block (center X place; I don't have the "door" with the diagram) was blown. I replaced that fuse AND the 15A fuse under the hood (HORN), and everything works again...for now.

my problem turned out tto be a bad plug in the wiring harness coming from the hazard switch on the dash. i traced the wires and foung that a plug way up under the dash had come undone, kinda a wierd thing, but it soled my problems.
Steanson: where did you on the beach, looks a little like the texas coast, i used to liein austin and on a few occasions, my dad and i took trips up and down the coast camping, we always had a blast and found tons of neat stuff washed up.

SECOND UPDATE
blinkers toast again.
I went to return the $80 switch, and on my way home, left signal went fuzzy, then out then I tried the hazards and they were fried too. UNGH. So, I went to buy 3 ea. fuses (10A & 15A) for the two locations, and whenever I install them, they blow again. Well, working on it a redneck Jeeper maintenance guy in my apartments started following my wires, got to my signal lights, and said "you may have water in there shortin' em out" and as he unscrewed the bulbs, about 2 shots of saltwater poured out. OOPSIE. so much for my beach driving. SO, TOMORROW I will pull them, clean them, and pray they aren't fried (the terminals) and replace the bulbs. So much for driving in water with aftermarket clear turn signals!!!
*ANYONE have any good water-proofing tips for the turn signal housings?

YES, that was Texas...Padre Island National Seashore. It was totally isolated on the 63 mile drive to the end, and LOTS of weird fun junk washed up on shore. It's the resting place for all the Gulf's litter...Was a bit amusing and also a little sad, but not much we can do to prevent the ships, boats, platforms, etc. from dumping their stuff. I was lucky I didn't step on any medical waste, and at the ranger station I was there when they got a call about a "package" that was about to wash up near the campgrounds...a BIG, RED PACKAGE. I thought a bale of cocaine, but then I remembered medical waste is "red bagged", so who knows...as I left I saw the USCG chopper doing a fly by... lookit some of what washed up...my favorite is the survival suit!

Sorry to resurrect this dead horse, but I gave in and took it to Toyota of Dallas.
$320.00 for labor. I jarred 2 wires loose (a ground and a power) and the reconnected one and had to retap and mount the ground to a different location (Uh, how badly did I bend something jumping beach bumps?!?)
Anyway, it was done in a day and worth not having to trace down the shorts. I hate 'tricity troubleshooting!
