Check out 4crawlers web site, he has a section on how to trouble shoot and repair your rear window.

i checked out the website, GREAT STUFF!

still... i dont want to tear up the interior to identify the wire/relay giving me the issue. i was hoping someone had a similar issue that was a simple fix. maybe a new switch (not making contact)? or repair the relay in the rear corner? i know it works, it just needs to roll down from the switch up front.

maybe im dreaming, and there is no simple fix...

In the rear window relay box there are four relays, one makes the window go down, one makes it go up, one is for the rear wiper and one is for the rear defrost if you have it, so if its not rolling down it could be a bad or dirty switch, a broken wire, or a bad relay in the relay box.

My '95 had the same problem. Just pop the botton out the center console and clean up the connectors with a pencil eraser. Did the trick for me and only took about 10 mins.

i tried cleaning the blue connector the switch is attached to, no luck.

i will try a different switch before i dig out the relay box.

i looked up part numbers of the relays on 4crawlers site and none of which were found on either website does anyone know of a different p/n???????

edit: found omron relay http://www.onlinecomponents.com/buy/...S/G5LE-1-DC12/

When we talk about cleaning the switch, were not refering to the blue plug, you need to take the switch a part and clean the contacts inside. I also rebuilt the relay box on my 86 4Runner, i used a 12 amp relay, and i think the stock relays are rated at 8 amps.

thanks myyota, is there a trick in getting to the in-erds of the switch?? i will get into it a little more tomorrow morning and hopefully take pictures and do a little bit of a tech write-up. any help is appreciated!!

another quick question, what the best way to get the dome light lense off, the bulb burnt out. i wanna check the fuse first obviously, i think its in the no.2 relay box under the hood, right?

To get the switch a part CAREFULLY pry the bottom off, be careful not to loose any of the internal parts, clean it and put it back together.

The dome light lens just pops off, and the fuse for the done light should be behind the driver side kick panel.

took the switch apart today, broke a side of the casing (whoops, but it still holds it and you cant tell.) and got it back together. AND IT WORKS, i'm glad i did this and didnt attempt to fiddle with the relay, thanks to all that helped me!

took the switch out

another view....

took the little bulb out.

took switch, spring, lever and contacts out of the case, eye glass screwdriver cracked the casing.

used the pencil eraser to brush of any residue that was on there, im assuming from the grease/lube where the spring met the lever. put it all back together, plugged it in and watched from the rear view as my window rolled up and down!
