97 4runner full-time power mod help...

ok so after 2 days of searching I have come to the conclusion this option is not possible or at least I am not electric savvy to figure out how to do this mod.
after reading this article https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f127...4runner-75183/
I figured I would have no problem doing this mod, however my fuse block under the hood does NOT have a "power outlet" relay. is my relay located else where and if so where, or how can I have fulltime power at my Cig Lighter.

now before I get flamed I do have another 12V outlet I bought and plan to install in the passenger side of the center console, but I'd like my cig to be a full time power outlet as well.

this brings me to my next question. In all the write up I have read every body is running the new 12V acc. plugs directly to the battery or new fuse distribution box. is there any harm in just tapping into my existing Cig 12V power wire?

I am contemplating putting fuse distribution box under the hood. I will also be adding 2 amps and subwoofer but for that I will run a 4g wire from the battery with a inline fuse into the back of the truck into another 4 fuse box. to power my amps, power inverter, and another 12V acc outlet.

The full time power outlet mod is not for the cigarette lighter, it is for the auxiliary 12V power points (which maybe the '97 4Runner doesn't have). The cigarette lighter is not powered through a relay... it's power comes directly from the ignition switch through the 15A ACC Fuse.

So for you, there is no relay to jumper. The easiest way for you is probably just to run a wire from your battery positive terminal, through an inline fuse, into the cab, then cut the positive wire behind the cig lighter, and solder on your new "full-time positive" wire instead.

ahh ok makes sense now I did see a 15a acc fuse.

well I guess I will just have to run my new 12V outlet to battery with a fuse. as long as I have 1 12v outlet getting full time power thats good enough for me. I just dont like the idea of leaving my key in the ignition when charging a dead cell phone if your out and about eating dinner or some thing.

well I hope this thread might be useful for others with a 96,97, and possibly98 4runner wondering if they can have full-time power.

You can always connect the new 12V supply to the cig lighter as well. It's pretty easy to access the wires back there. That way, you'd have two 12V supplies hot all the time.
