2nd Gen Battery Grounded Itself. Need Diagnostic help.

I have a 1995 4runner with a Blue Top Optima Battery installed. The battery some how came loose and the positive terminal touched the retaining bar and welded itself to it. The ground cable to the alternator fried as well as a few others and now, obviously, my truck wont start. I've checked all the fuses and none of them blew! I was wondering if anyone has had this happen and if so, what did you do to fix it?

So did you replace the cables? Is the battery shot now?

For possible blown fuses, check out this thread: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f131/battery-reverse-polarity-101279/

be careful the fuses may look good but they can still be blown somewhere you cant see.

use a multimeter to check em or replace some of the common ones associated with startup and electrical system.

cheap insurance anyway.

I had the exact same thing happen to me on my 2nd gen with a yellow top optima. Relays were clicking everywhere I had no idea what had happened until I pulled over. I did not burn any fuses as well, but my alternator wires were intact. The only thing that happened to mine was the ground wire from the coil/ignitor that goes to the block and then grounds back to the body fried like crazy. I think I had a 6 inch section that completely burned the coating and then at the body it burned a bit of the paint on the inside wheel well. Check that wire, its right on the driver's side under the intake tubing. I replaced the wire and bada bing, she cranked right up. I guess that was just the weak link in the system and luckily the only thing that fouled up. Good luck.

Wow! I noticed that. It's at a mechanics shop. He sounded pretty pissed when I told him I wanted to fix it myself. I hope he didn't mess anything up. My car is in Austin and I am in Dallas. I DIDN'T HAVE YOTATECH TO HELP ME!!!

i welded a screwdriver to the frame and blew the fusible link.

TIP: remove the ground cable first!
