Short version- If I disconnect all plugs from the ACM, can I use a powerprobe 3000 to find and repair a broken wire in an airbag impact sensor.
Long Version- I have a tricky one here that I think I have a route forward with but would love to have some input from the yotatechers. So I purchased a 2004 4.7 4runner as a project car. When I purchased it the airbag light was on, figured it would likely be a seatbelt sensor or something to that effect and didn't think too much of it. Started trying to set things right in the rig and my scantool was showing an error in the airbag control module. Did some research and looked like maybe the module needed to be reset. Sent it off to get reset, still had an issue. Took it to a shop they were able to use a tool to determine that the passenger side impact sensors was throwing a bad signal. They swapped the driver's side and passenger side and were still showing a bad signal in the passenger side, so they started going down the route of a bad wire connecting to the impact sensor. They then tapped out, getting into airbag wiring was more than they wanted to do. They referred me to another shop who told me I would likely need to replace the entire wire harness for the car to fix the one bad wire as there could be additional liability the shop could not take on. The wire loom parts alone were going to be more than the cost of the rig. So I am hoping to figure out a foolproof way to either splice a break in the wire, or just run a whole new wire in place of the broken wire. I have a power probe 3000 I intend to use to find the break, and I understand that even with the battery disconnected, the ACM can still ignite the airbags. So here's my question. I cannot for the life of me find any wiring diagrams of the airbag system for this rig. My assumption is if I disconnect all wires from the ACM, I should be able to use the power probe from the impact sensor plug side to find where my break is. Am I missing something? Does the impact sensor run through the ECM for some reason? My understanding is the whole purpose of the ACM is to have a separate dedicated system that's sole purpose is to detect impacts, assess if airbag deployment is needed, and deploy the airbags all in one.
Thanks Heres the rig after adding a coast welded bumper kit.
