2000 4runner limited dash power loss while driving

Good morning, I recently put a 2000 4runner bk on the road and it drove fine out of town and bk. On the return home I stopped at a store and had ac on and left in park. As I got ready to leave the ac cut out and dash gauges all went flat. Radio and other electronics continued to work. I went to test battery once home and it showed 12.3. Once I crank to trk it went to 9.3. Visually all of the fuses look good. But as I apply the brake I can hear an electrical pop. New to this type of thing but mechanically inclined. Where should I start or test 1st? Could a bad alternator cause a ac fuse to overload an cause this?
