1993 speed sensor not working

Hi everybody! I tried this on another forum but did not get any answers even though there were 163 views so I thought I would try it here hoping for an answer.
From what I can glean from the electrical FSM for my 1993 4cylinder plain vanilla p/u w/ac, 22re engine and no cruise control. The #2 speed sensor located in the instrument cluster is what appears to be used only with the electronic controlled transmission and overdrive function or . Does anyone know if this is correct or am I interpreting the manual incorrectly? The #1 is located speed sensor in the tail shaft housing and appears to be used only for the speedo and odometer for the manual transmission. Can anyone confirm my reading of the manual.

Thanks to all

Dennis

Wyoming9...Thank you for your response!! My truck has a 5 speed manual transmission. The other things that happen are that the speedometer works sometimes. There is no reason that I can discern when it will work or not work. Sometimes the odometer will work and sometimes it will not. When it does work it does not make any difference whether the speedometer is working or not. If you have any further questions please feel free to post them on the forum and I will reply as soon as I read them. Thank you again!.

Since it seems to be a intermittent issue I would guess a loose corroded connection at one or more of the plugs

A poor ground for that circuit.

Wires in the harness rubbing causes a open circuit

One of those things you need to be up close and personal

Without the EWD for your vehicle I am not sure just what values you need to see from the speed sensor

Any other electrical devices not working
