Whats wrong with my suspension?
I just got my 4runner in Feb. 06, so I havnt had it too long. The lady I bought it off of said she just had the shocks replaced the summer before, and she never had it off road.
When I bought it, it was very tight stiff suspension more trucklike than anything with little to no body roll around turns. I've had it offroad on about 10 trail rides, and now I can stand on the rear bumper and feel the bumpstops hitting and it feels like the 4runner is now a boat with the rear end just washing around.
I'm not sure what is causing these problems since the shocks are fairly new, and dont notice too much "bouncing" after hitting a bump. And the rear still seems to be sitting level with the front so I didnt think my springs were too warn out, but it might just be that I havnt had it loaded down with stuff enough to notice the rear sag.
Any Ideas what I should check? If i go for a suspension lift now will it tighten the ride up again? I really liked the trucklike feel and rough ride without the body roll, can I get that with a 2-3 inch lift or do lifts usually make it softer than stock?
Thanks for any help guys

If she changed the shocks but retained the stock springs there is your problem. They are good about preventing body roll on the street but bottom out on damn near every bump on or off the road. I finally got fed up with mine having to drive 5-10MPH on fire roads that I swapped everything out to the Old Man Emu which put stiffer springs and better shocks in place.... now the bottoming out is a thing of the past and I can fly off road.

well..you could just be a reallly reallly really large man that makes the 4runner hit the bumpstops when you stand on the rear bumper...LOL JK
well, maybe the coils are screwed? Maybe she put in junk shocks? maybe she never changed them?
you can do the tundra lift(search tundra lift) and you will be satisfied. Its not too $$$ either.

LOL, no I'm only 165 lbs, so I think its the 4runner
I guess its sounding like I need a suspension upgrade... now just need to decide if I want to do the OME, Tundra/OME, or the OEM toyota lift. I would really like the OEM lift, but its pretty pricey and I was thinking the tundra/OME was about the same (around $1000 from sonoran steel), but I have heard that straight OME sags a little in the rear (cant stand that look) but costs around $300 less than the other two.
I was hoping to put most of my money this summer into paying off the 4runner instead of upgrading it, so the cheaper the better right now.

yeah, a lot of times I have the back crammed full of camping gear, and I plan on eventually getting a rear bumper, so I should probably go with the stiffer springs. You think if its not loaded down with the heavy springs that it wont get full articulation off road?

I like the OME setup, especially considering the price. Sagging has been stated but most see a very slight sag (1/2") unless you go w/ heavy bumpers. If you plan on doing custom steel bumpers, don't go OME but if not, OME is fine and very affordable.

I've been doing a lot of researching today, and for the price, OME seems to be the way to go. I do plan on doing front and rear bumpers eventually, but I figure it will be a while since I'm still working on paying off the truck.
if I do the lift, its gonna look crappy with my 265s, so i'll want 285s, but they will rub so i'll want 4" backspaced LC wheels.... and then we're talkin more money than I want to spend before college starts back... grrrrrrrrrrrr
