What rear end is this? 7.5?

Hey guys I have a 86' Corolla with a solid axle rear swapped into it. I was told it is a 7.5 out of a 1984-1989 truck or van but cant find info on those. I really need to put a limited slip differential in it, hopefully I can use one out of a supra but first I need to figure out what rear end it is. If you know of a way to make it limited slip let me know, thanks.

Any help is appreciated! Here are the pictures, sorry for the bad quality:

The reason why a solid axle was swapped into it:

It's hard for me to tell what size your ring gear is, but I believe that's the safest identifier. Hopefully that^^ page will help you out a little.

I've also heard that if you can locate a LSD for a front 7.5" IFS housing (4wd trucks or Runners), that it also works in a 7.5" rear. I have no proof, its strictly heresay... So check thoroughly before committing to that belief.... Lol

And will that 7.5" hold up for long after you LSD it? Thought about upgrading?

not sure about the axle, looks like it could be the 7.5". i like taking things apart so i would just take an hour or so to pull the third to confirm.

that engine just looks frigging cool...

Thanks for the help, I'll probably pull it next weekend and see. I also heard that the front 7.5 IRS diff could possibly work. Guess I will do some experimenting with it.

It does look like a truck housing. AFAIK, the only trucks that got a 7.5" in the rear were 2WD ones, which are also 5-lug (4WD was 6). Of course, it wouldn't be the first time the axles had been machined for another lug pattern. But you could pull the brakes apart and have a look at the end of the axle shaft to see if it's been modified.

Doesn't make sense to me why someone would go to the trouble of putting a truck axle in it, and use a 7.5" though.

Either way, though. There are options. Supras came with 7.5" or 8" rear diffs. They are both swappable into solid axles. Detroit makes the True-trac LSD for the 8", which I've seen put in the Supra IRS or the truck solid axle. I have an OEM Supra rear 7.5" LSD in the IFS on my 4Runner.

definatley a truck housing, what do you need the limited slip for? 86 corollas and all prior came with solid axles, I swaped a mopar 8 3/4 with all the goods into my 79 celica. I have seen corollas with ford 9inch, 10 bolt, 12 bolt, nissan pathfinder, hilux, ford 8.8 rear ends swaped in.
