#1
Hello guys and Happy New Year, this morning I was browsing on a VW forum and came accross this. At first I was sepcitcal but I'm hoping you guys can futher educate me on this. Supposidly Volkswagon and Toyota worked together to design the 22R/RE/RET engine and later Volkswagon was producing vechiles similar to the style of toyota...thats all I know and what I heard. Is there any truth to this, maybe can someone elaborate on this for me.

VW had a joint venture deal with Toyota in the late 80s to early 90s which allowed them to market the Hilux pickup as the Volkswagen Taro. The 2wd versions were made by VW in Germany and the 4wd version was made for them by Toyota in Japan. It didn't sell very well and the deal folded in the early 90s. I guess people thought they might as well buy the real deal.
