Tire tubes & sidewall repairs

Im looking into repairing my 37/12.50R15 Radial IROK. Its brand new, maybe 2000 miles on it. I took it out wheeling on Sunday and ripped the sidewall about 6" or so. I want to put a tube in it and keep it as a spare. Ive heard of people carying some kind of thread (I was thinking about using a long fishing leader) and a needle along with an inner tube to make this kind of repair on the trail.

So where can you get a 37" -or even 36" or 38"- tube?

Whats everyone using to stich the rip?

Thanks

I'd write that tire off as a cost of wheelin'. There is no way to properly repair that kind of gash in a sidewall. Even with your idea of stitching and an inner tube, you are just begging to leave yourself stranded out in the sticks, somewhere.

x2 that tire is done!

You cant, well shouldn't even repair a punctured sidewall. The reason is there is no steel in there to keep the plug from comming out.

Just think of the worst case scenerio put that spare on it blows out and then you end up losing the 4runner over $160, just not worth it. Best case scenerio......well you never use that haggard spare tire so why even carry it?

Not trying to be rude but I wouldn't risk my ride or my life to a few dollars.

If it's just for a spare try to get a used tire and then you have a safe spare that dosn't break the bank.

If you want to stich it I would use some 100# plus sturgeon leader. Not the mono type. I also would never drive with that on a road or fast.

Anyone heard of Vulcanizing? I talked to a tire shop that deals with truck tires and they said they could repair it if it was no longer that 5 1/4".

Worst case its gonna get stiched up and or patched or vulcanized and Ill run a tube in it and it will be a trail only spare, just something to get me to the road.
