I sold all my extra wheels & tires and want to buy a new set. I think I've researched too much and now I can't decide. Maybe you guys can help. Taking into account, performance, cost, weight & looks, here are the options:

1. 15x8 steelies w/ 33x10.50x15 BFG MT (32.8x10.5) Tire:47lbs, Wheel: 28lbs = 75lbs total. $838

2. 16x8 steelies w/ 255/85/16 Trxus MT (32.7x10.1) Tire:53lbs, wheel:37lbs = 90lbs total. $818

3. 16x8 steelies w/ 285/75/16 Destination MT (33.3x11.3) Tire:47lbs, wheel:37lbs = 84lbs total. $981

4. 17x8 steelies w/ 255/75/17 BFG MT (32.3x10) Tire:49lbs, wheel:38lbs= 87lbs total. $732

I know I can cut the weight w/a diff wheel, but steelies look hot on a 1st Gen and they are cheap! and good for wheeling.

I get the best price on the 17's and they are one of the lighter ones, but will they crap out on the trail? and they are 32's (Tall 32's). The Trxus look good too, but they are the heaviest. The Destinations are nice and light, but that's more than what I wanted to spend. Lastly, the 15" BFG are the lightest of all, but that is the only brand available & I like the looks of a bigger wheel. I think the 17's would look really good. Opinions please.

17 is the largest i would go and i would want at least 35s for that size

Ooops.. yeah, it's the MT. Leme correct it. Yeah and I know what you mean.. Almost a grand for some tires w/steelies?? Just too much $$$$.

LOL.. Sorry, I already have 15x8 steelies, but have someone to buy them in case I go with other size. 33x10.50's are almost as much as the bigger Destinations!

 

I'd go with 1 so you don't have to buy more wheels....A question though....why will it cost 800 bucks if you already have the wheels? Are you buying 5 tires?

 

Or,

Rock crawler steel wheels which are made by procomp, each cost about 80 bucks. Or you could do 15x8 wagon steelies which are dirt cheap at summit racing..

I personally like the firestone MT's the best, may not be the cheapest but they are danged nice. Or you coudl do toyo MT's which are also very good.

Also you should buy the tires at tire rack and the rims online too, no reason to buy a whole package when you can get them mounted for maybe 50 bucks, thus you save on shipping and such..

 

It's because those BFG MT's are freakin expensive! I only paid $120 for the wheels, but the best price on those tires are $718 w/s&h @ tirerack... and I have looked everywhere. Lucky for me, I get free mounting & balance @ my buddy's shop, or else I'd be paying more. I'm talking total price wheels/tires so I added the $120 to the $718.
Summit is where I was going to get the 16/17" wheels and a few of the tires. They have free s&h right now.

 

So in terms of pure cash outlay right now, though, the 33x10.50-15's are the cheapest, right?

Plus, they WILL fit if the backspacing is similar to stock because IIRC you have little/no lift. The 285's will probably rub.

 

That's right TC! If we are talking tire price only, the 33x10.50's are more $$ and could be more as far as a replacement. Only reason, they are competitive in pkg price is because I saved $100 bucks on some used wheels. They are lighter and will probably fit on my truck w/no lift, but I'm not sure if I should still get them because in a 16", I will have more tire options for replacing. Although, those dang 16" are almost 10lbs heavier per wheel.

 

Well, nowhere is going to have these sizes in stock, so replacement is all an order situation anyways.

 

That may be true, but the reason I was also saying that was because for the last 3 weeks I have searched craigslist & ebay for a good used deal, and I have not seen used 33x10.50's. I have surprisingly seen quite a few times the 16", but they were too worn down, or just a pair or so. I've even seen used 255/75/17's. I think they might look the best of the bunch, but alas they are getting no love from the Yotatechers haha.

 

Maybe that's an indication that those of us with 33x10.50 don't want to part with them....

 

I would go with the 33x10.50 MT on a 7 inch rim with as close to stock backspacing as possible. I know you already have 8" rims but if I were you I would look for some SR5 alloys.

I have Downey 3" in the rear and BJ spacers in front with the T bars relaxed. Altogether I have maybe 2" of lift. I have 33x10.50 MT's on 7" rockcrawlers with 4" backspacing and no tire rub.

I think with 8" rims and no lift you are going to have tire rub when the front is stuffed. At the very least you need to hammer the pinch weld.

Thanks. Yeah, I was willing to hammer the pinch, but did not want to cut into my fenders. I was thinking of doing a 1" BL, for looks and mere reassurance of no rub. Plus, I just bought some sliders, so that room would be nice to place them underneath. I really like the way your truck looks on the 33's & steelies. Believe me, I have stared at your truck long before your post. I know 15's look best on paper as far as cost now & weight, but 16-17" wheels on a 1st gen look hawt!!
