Stick shift mod needed

I have a 92 PU Ex Cab, and though the seats go 2" farther back then the 4R seats do my right knee/leg is always up against gear knob in 1st and 2nd and only about 2" away while in 3rd and 4th.

Back when I had a 4R my legs were bent a little more putting my knees higher and would get slapped by the stick now and then on the odd rock crawl trail.
But now with my truck my knee/leg are going to get beat badly even on mild roads.

Anyone ever mod there stick or come up with a fix?
Otherwise I am going to have to use one of those harden knee pads that construction workers wear.

Maybe shifters from a different trans will work? Or from a 4runner?

Marlin crawler makes a short throw shift kit. Maybe they make one for your tranny?

You could take out the shifter, heat it up and bend it.

Quickest fix take it out remove all

the plastic and rubber parts heat it with torch bend it.

Not sure how you sit but you must have real long legs with not near enough room.

I have the opposite problem my legs are so short I can barely reach the pedals.

One of the things you need to watch is that now it does not hit the transfer case. If you bend it!!

The SR5 bucket seats from a similar year 4Runner should bolt up, and the driver's side has a height adjustment in the front. Maybe it could adjust enough to put your legs at a better angle. Another thing easy to check is the motor mounts and possibly the transmission crossmember. I have a beater ranch truck where the motor mounts were both broken and the crossmember is bent. Before I replaced the motor mounts the shifter would move a lot (actually moved enough to bend some of the floorboard), and the bent crossmember has put the shifter at a different angle. If the shifter has a lot of play in it, a new shift seat bushing might tighten it up and move it just far enough out of the way. If all those things are fine then I think your only solution is either see if a different shifter will work or just bend it. Another option could be to re-weld the seat mounts to get the seat farther back.

The motor and trans mounts, The stick seating are fine.

The EX cab PU seats already go back 2" farther then 4Runner seats, And they are SR5 buckets.

It already rubs my knee when driving street and its not a problem, Its when times when your treading loose rocks and bouncing the stick will flail a lot harder.
In the 4Runner when this happen I have gotten some really nice bruises, I don't need it splitting my knee cap now.

It sounds like the only option is to bend it. You might also be able to twist it 45* or cut it and re-weld it at the bend under the shift boot so it is bent toward the passenger side of the truck. I wonder if a 2wd shifter would do anything?

You could also get a shifter extension, like the kind used with body lifts, and wrap it in pipe-wrap where your knee hits it. I believe 4Crawler on here sells the extensions.
