guys I finally went to pull the car out of the garage today and the steering wheel is locked. The car starts right up, and shifts into drive. But the steering wheel remains locked. Any ideas on what I did wrong or missed?
thanks

there is a solid bar that goes from the ignition switch too the steering column. The steering columng has a notch where the bar goes into. You are probably missing the pin that unlocks this bar. I am going to look around and see if I can find diagrams of the ignition switch.

In the top pic where you have the broken Cyl, Does that shaft all the way to the left go back in? Is there a chance it went in backwards? Chance that anything went in backwards or upside down?

in this picture
the cylinderical piece on the left inserts into the back of the lock cylinder and then on the other end inserts into the grey piece in the center of the pic below. I guess this piece could be inserted one way or flipped 180 degrees and inserted the other way. Other then that everything else was pretty straight forward.

Ok I found the diagram. but the file is too large to post. I am wrong about the pin. I have a whole PDF file, on the steering column if you want I can send it to you. It would help you find the problem, much easier.

If you take a look at the part where the ignition switch assembly attachs to the steering column. In there is the metal bar I am talking about. The ignition switch assembly has this thing that looks like a cam, that goes from the key lock to the electric switch. When you turn the key this cam moves that bar out of the steering column. Oh this thing is spring loaded if the spring is not in there it is not going to move.

I have the same problem with a key that wont turn and a locked steering wheel. I have a new ignition lock tumbler ready to install but am concerned that the wheel wont unlock when i remove the stuck key tumbler. Did your steering wheel unlock when you removed ignition tumbler?
