Rattle can paint before herculiner?

I'm just wondering if it would be good or bad to sand and paint my rockers with flat black paint before I herculine them. I kinda want to see what just flat black looks like before I decide to roll on the herculiner. Is this a bad idea?

Should be ok as long as your re-rough the fat black coat before proceeding with the herculiner.

I'd just scuff off any dirt, rust or shine and put the herculiner on!

You won't be sorry.

Well actually, I should specify: I have a can of the duplicolor bedliner laying around along with the roller, etc. I was planning on sanding it down, getting rid of all the surface rust that occured since i brought the truck to Milwaukee from Phoenix and rattle canning it just to make sure it doesnt get any worse. The when I have the time for it to dry the whole 24 hours and we get warmer temperatures then rolling it on.

well i would sand it down to shiney metal, paint it with a rust coat, lightly sand that down then herculine it then clear coat it several times. my friend in Medicine Hat did that, he sanded his whole truck to bare metal, then a few rust coats, then herculined/x-lined 3 or 4 coats, then painted it blue, then about 8 coats of clear coat for extra protection.

I would strip it down the the bare metal...if you wheel at all you will have a hard time keeping anything to stick to the sides of the sliders. I coated the top of mine with Duraliner and it has saved me from busting my ass on more than one occasion
