Radio Reception Problems

Radio Reception Problems
Im not sure wtf gives, I put a new radio in and reception was great. I have a non power regular antenna too, power one broke so I swapped over to everything manual years ago
Anyways, I remove the antenna voila at the spot I was in the station came in LOUD and CLEAR. Put antenna back in reception goes away.. makes no sense. Im tried a spare antenna mast, and nothing changed. Maybe the antenna wire shorted or something? All I can recall is taking off the antenna mast for the car wash a few weeks ago. But no other problems before or after that.

When did the signal quality degrade.
Was it after the car wash??
I would try replacing the antenna along with the cable.
someplace something is broken and by moving it around it worked for awhile moved it again poor performance
