how do you all change your filter without making a mess?!

 

Stuff a rag under filter then remove quickly.

 

I had one on my 97 Tahoe and loved it. My kit came with a hose to attach to the spout. It is cleaner to use and no digging around in hot oil to find the plug.

Don't know about using one on a trail rig, but now that I'm SAS'ed I could check clearances to see if it'll work.

 

Surprised that no one's mentioned the fact that you no longer have to replace the drain plug gasket, or am I the only one that does that? In any instance, I say, if it makes your life a little easier, then more power to you! Being able to do an oil change without tools sounds worth it to me.

 

dont forget you dont run the risk of dropping the drain plug in your oil catcher!!!

My favorite benefit is filling directly into old bottles eliminating the dumping out and cleaning of my old oil pan. I should probably pick one up for a 22R, I only have three of them at the moment...

 

im sold. will the nipple version fit under the stock skid plate?

 

For some reason, I can just imagine someone coming up and opening the valve on me in a parking lot, and i drive away.

Other then that I like the idea of being able to drain straight into bottles.

I have one on all of my vehicles (5). I love them. Cleaner oil changes and no more stripped oil pans. My subaru has had one for 5+ years with no problems.

 

I put a Fumoto valve on the wife's Subaru Legacy, as the oil came gushing out of that thing during oil changes, faster than my drain pan funel could handle and it would overflow onto the garage floor! And that's if you got the drain pan in the right spot in the first place! I've never seen an oilpan drain that fast, not even close. Now I can just run a hose into an empty oil jug, much cleaner and easier.

If your vehicle doesn't have the above problem, then you don't really need a solution IMO, but it's a neat gadget all the same.

If you are doing this for the 'mess' factor,do a remote oil filter under the hood so you just take off a dry filter.

As long as you don't have any jerks around that might open it for you,it seems like a great deal

 

i'm about to install this on my new 3rd gen... you know, over 6 years after ordering it...... any update from anyone on these in the last 6 years? still worth it?

My husband put one on the 99 and likes it. The way he has it installed is a bit tight between the pan and (aftermarket) skid, but he gets to it without having to use me for my scrawny arms.
I'm still old school on the 96, which reminds me I need to change the oil.

 

To each his or her own but I don't have any trouble pulling my plug and I only have to do it a couple times a year. Show me a filter that won't make a mess and I'll be listening.

I worked as a field product support rep for Caterpillar for years and I saw several of these in my travels. Every time I actually saw one I was pointing it out to a customer as the the reason he has a piston rod hanging out the side of his block. Just last month I got called out to look at an overheated log truck. When I got there I found a heater core shutoff valve without the handle on it dripping coolant. Driver said he opened it up because it was cold and said everything was fine for 50 miles. The valve had come apart. No idea why but s*** happens sometimes. Our trucks are off road rigs and stuff gets kicked up under them all the time. Taking your skid pans off makes changing the oil easier too but I'm not ready to throw mine away yet.
