In my 4 runner i have red colored power steering and i checked the level of it and it was low so i went to buy some power steering and all the power steering they have is clear color. Then i went to napa and they told me that ATF works in the power steering, but i still dint put it in, but can i still put in ATF in my power steering? or do i need that clear power steering because i cant find the red colored anywhere.

 

2nd gens use Dexron II ATF in the power steering.

 

1st gens use ATF w/ Dexron I or II as well as recommended by the Factory Service Manual AND my original owner's manual. I think putting PS fluid in mine w/o paying attention made the seals leak and I had to get a new ps pump.

so will dexron I or II work in my 1990 toyota 4runner?

 

i put dextron in mine I II or III i dont know that it really matters. Has something to do with the quality/temp range not that it makes a whole lot of diffrance with a powerstearing pump.
