Performance cams?

I've been thinking about swapping a cam, but i had a couple questions i couldn't find the answers too...
I read somewhere that swapping cams can improve gas mileage.
I'm looking at getting a downey 22RE performance camshaft for my '85 Runner.
Is it worth the money for the extra power and how will it effect gas mileage?
I also heard installation is pretty simple... do i need any special tools?

Thanks!

I would recommend you look at engnbldr.com, LCEngineering or DOA Racing for a cam. Just my 2 cents.

I dont think a cam will just improve your mpg. It moves your powerband up or down... mostly up, the way you drive it affects your mpg. My mpg went down, but im blaming that on the way i drive it. It makes decent power low-end, but wakes up and screams @ anything above 3500rpm.
But installing a cam is very easy, make sure to have cam lube and a feeler gauge to set valves after.
