Old Wheels and old Acorn with shank nuts

i just aquired some 35" tires with 15" rims. instead of dismounting the tires and remounting them (plus dismounting my current tires) i wanted to just use the tires i got with the wheels that they came with. however, they use the older style acorn with shank lug nuts. i talked to a Goodyear shop and he recommended me not to use those kinds since they are old and prone to problems. he said it would prob be better to mount them on my newer current wheels (which would cost from $100-$140). the lugs that they came with are the wrong size anyway, so i would need to order new acornshank lugs which would cost about $30-$45. what do you think? is he just trying to get me to spend more money at his shop?

the shank fits into the stud holes just fine, maybe a little loose due to wear and tear, but i dont see anything wrong with em. i have no experience with these types of wheels. im not gonna keep my truck for much longer anyway. gonna buy a 4r in the next month.

what u guys think?

thx

As long as the wheels fit the bolt patten on your vehicle properly, the rims are not bent, and the bolt holes are not hogged out. I would just get a new set of lug nuts that fit the wheel and studs properly. Are the 'new' wheels steel or alloys?

Acorn lug nuts have been holding on my wheels just fine for 13 years.
