OK to only lock one hub? What say you?
I posted this in the '86-95 section, and have appreciated the replies. Since my question is not year related, and a lot more people use this section, I thought I would see what you all thought.
I have a '90 with a Detroit Truetrac in the rear and a Detroit locker in the front. I like this setup because it is my daily driver, yet I get the benefits off-road when I lock the front. My problem is as we all know lockers suck in the ice and snow. Driving to the mountain, I am always tempted to leave it in 2wd. I do. Have not had a problem yet. But if it gets hairy, can I just lock one hub up front and put it in 4wd? Makes sense to me, but I want to make sure. Thanks.

I wouldnt lock just one with a locker in the front. In snow it would be even worse. If you do, lock the drivers side only. I would sell the locker and install a limited slip in the front IF you drive in alot of snow. All you can do is try it and see what happens.

I would think if you only lock one side, it will basically act as an open diff, but you'll never be able to take advantage of traction on the "free" wheel...I think this is why most people put the locker in the back and the LSD in the front...Wish Detroit made the Electrac for Toyotas...
