ok to go to big exhaust pipe to small to big?
ok so i need to put a muffler on my 1986 4runner. i need something quiet and the Walker Soundfit looks good. the only issue is the ends of the muffler is 1.75in diameter, but id like to use a bigger pipe for better flow. is it ok to go from the stock header/manifold to a 2in pipe, to a short pipe that goes from a 2in on one end down to a 1.75, then the muffler, then back up to a 2.25in pipe? if i cant do this then what is a muffler you suggest that can take a 2in diameter pipe thats quiet that still has just a little roar in it? i wont be running cats.

Going smaller anywhere along the length defeats what you are trying to do. My trucks all sport 1.75 to 2.0 pipe front to back. Makes my life easy. I do not think the flow improvement is worth the hassle of custom pipe jobs for how very little full throttle driving I do. Also noise is a concern for me, the houses are too close. I use Walker or Rockauto factory muffler pipe and use an 8" glass pack in place of the cat. Some MIG & sawzall work and no more for years, till rust kills it. Walker seems to be thicker stuff.
