oil leak on a 2.7

oil leak on a 2.7
it's a 98 4runner, 2.7L, 5spd, 4x4 with 175k on the odometer.
there is a leak right at the tranny/motor. it is engine oil, and it has just started over the past 2 weeks. i am leaning towards the rear main seal, but i have been unable to find any posts/write ups on this replacement on this motor. everything else is the 3.0 or the 22re.
anyone know of a link for this? i know it involves removing the tranny/clutch, but that is as far as i have ever been.
