I'm looking at buying an older taco or toyota pickup to drive back and forth to work so I don't rack up the miles on my 06. I would like decent gas mileage but still want 4 wheel drive. I'd also like it to be able to be lightly wheeled on the weekends(taken through the woods for firewood, detour off the road through mud, etc.) I'd like to spend around $1500. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should expect at this price? Also, any favorites.

 

For $1500, probably an 80's or early 90's pickup with a 4cyl with high milage.
Toyota trucks hold their value well.

 

Good luck. When I lived in Cleveland, I had a HELLUVA time finding ANYTHING for less than $2500, and what I did see less than that had NO body left due to the rust.

You would be much better off finding one out West if you can. The availability is much greater and obviously the rust is less.

 

85-95 toyota pickup with a 22re will be just fine

 

I agree I think you will have a hard time finding a decent older Yota with 4x4 for under $2500 or so.

Buy an older truck for a wheeler, and DD the 06. that's what each is respectively better suited to. The older yota will fit more places and generaly be tougher and more wheelable, but the 06 sure rides nice, and IMO is far batter as a DD.

And yeah, it takes some patience and a little luck to find an older Yota in decent shape fro under 2500 or so.
