My Firestone repair shop story
Ok we all hear/read the horror stories about people going to "Car Care Centers" and getting shafted or stuff broken. I am going to post the contrary.
6 months ago (July '06) I took my truck to the Firestone Car Care Center near my parents house to have a set of new Revo's put on while I went on vacation. I come back pick up the truck and go home (60 miles away). Cut to this Sunday (Dec '06). I notice right away the brakes are gone on the truck, as the wife has been driving it, the parking spots @ the ER are too small for her to park the other truck. Ask her if she had noticed a noise (grinding) and get the not really responce. So I go to yank the wheels while she goes and gets brake pads for it. I open the glove box and low and behold NO WHEEL LOCK KEY!!! I tear the truck apart, NO KEY!!! I haven't touched the wheels since the tires were put on. Wife comes home and I am in 1 heck of a PO'd state. She gets on the phone comes out and tells me to put the other lug nuts back on the wheel and put the brake pads on the front seat. So I ask whats up and she tells me she called Firestone (where I got the tires), they gave her the phone number to the closest Firestone to us. She called and explained the situation to the mananger. He said they would send a tow truck within the hour, cut off the old wheel locks, and install a new set for us. She then mentioned that we couldn't drive it home because the brakes are shot. He told her to throw the pads on the seat and they would put them on for free, but couldn't promise to have it to us until Monday afternoon. Tow truck shows up in 15 min's. and away the truck goes.
I get a phone call from the Firestone shop Monday early afternoon saying there is a problem with the brakes (Ok now the scam starts, or so I think). I say "OK, what's the issue", the guy explains that Advanced Auto gave the wife the pads for a 2WD and reads the p/n off the box to me and I look at the web site and sure enough he is right. "But all I have here in the shop is our premium pads, (ok bend over here it comes) they are $79.99 (uggg
ohh yeah there it is), but I'll give you them for my cost which is $21.99 (
, did I just here him right). Ok why not I can take the Adv Auto pads back and get the money back on them.
Show up last night, pick up the truck pay the man $23 (tax) go out look at the truck. They towed the truck, re-balanced and rotated the tires (could tell by the brake dust), re-surfaced the rotors cause they were chewed somewhat, put new locking lugs on, and replaced the pads for $23 dollars.
Sorry to be so long winded but it was a positive experiance. I have emailed the area, district, and regional managers, along with Firestone Car Care and Firestone HQ's. about the treatment I got from both stores (original store was going to do the same work before they found out we were 60 mi. away), and how professional the situation was handled and how as a customer my expectations were exceeded in every way.
