Hey sorry Jason just got back today, i've been out of town. I wouldnt say that it would be an injector, because it wouldnt make that kind of noise.

BTW (fireteacher) Do not use Seafoam on that, It will just make things worse, at least on most vehicles it does.

And thanks for the second video that helps me figure it out a little. It isnt a rod knock beause it goes away when you rev it up, But It could be a lifter, but what you need to do is adjust/tighten your rockers. at low RPM you can hear the rockers "clatter" so that might just be the problem. and if that is it, than that should be an easy fix.

So I would recommend doing that, just let me know what the result is.

are you aware of how the rotating assembly works on your motor?

A lifter sits on top of your camshaft and pushes up on the pushrod which is connected to your "Rockers".

Your rockers/rocker arms push on your Intake and Exhaust valves to open them.

You need to chech your rocker arms and make sure none of them are loose.

the 3.0 is single overhead cam with no rockers or lifters. the cam itself pushes on the valves instead of pushing on rockers. the video at the top of the website is the same setup as what the 3.0 has. but there are little pucks on top of the valves that the cam rides on that get worn down and can make the tapping you have. or if you are unlucky like i was its a rod knock

wow, I feel like a total retard right now...I'm too used to domestic V8's, I've just started getting into toyota's so... I made the mistake of thinking it was close to the same because it was a v6. thanks for the correction 90runnner

no worries bub, just didnt want him looking for rockers that didnt exist lol. ive been in and out of that damn motor enough times. hopefully his problem is the shims wore down on the tops of the valves. i had a similar noise except a bit louder that i thought was a noisy valve. it turned out to be a spun connecting rod bearing that was allowing the piston to come up and hit the cylinder head on the up stroke. the inside of that cylinder was not pretty. there were chunks of metal inside it, a couple as big as beebees. ended up dropping a new motor in it

ya I have a 68' Buick GS 400 that I have spun two bearing in, due to a warped rod. so I know all about that stuff. But his doesnt sound like he spun a bearing, usually when that happens it is a deeper sound, and it doesnt go away with revving.

is it a manual?

Does your truck have a manual tranny? If so, check to see if the slave cylinder piston is tapping against the shift fork...just a thought. I vaguely remember reading about this not too long ago.

I dont think that would be it. It would only do that when applying pressure to the clutch right? because it is disengaged when it is not being pressed down.

I think I would go along with this.

A lifetime warranty came with this work. I see the word valve 2 times. Does the description listed match or relate to a valve issue? Do you think I'm covered?

Work was finished 1/11/04.

I repeat. LIFETIME WARRANTY.

Yes.

The transmission was a used 90 4runner tranny. I will check on that. Someone told me to stick a broom in one ear and walk around the vehicle until I could narrow it down....havent tried that yet. haha.

I'll get back to you.

Ya, with the lifetime warrenty I would definatly take it in and let them look it over. What it looks like is they did a basic valve job on it in 04, they adjust them and clean everything up. so I guess if you drive your truck really hard or run it really rich then it may just need another valve job... but I would take it in and have them do the work for you.
